Dr. Qi presented her work at NERDY (New England Research on Dyslexia Society) conference on the relationship between statistical learning and reading abilities. http://ibacs.uconn.edu/nerdy/.

What is statistical learning? Why is statistical learning important for reading? How are visual and auditory statistical learning different? She assessed statistical learning and reading skills in 36 typically developing children and 36 healthy adults. Compared to visual statistical learning, auditory statistical learning skills are more strongly associated with individuals’ reading skills both at the decoding level and the comprehension level. The QLAB will expand this line of research to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying dissociable roles of statistical learning in language development across modalities and domains.
